I never knew in-hospital newborn sessions were a thing. I knew a lot of people got posed newborn sessions done with their brand new babies. The sessions where the baby is all dolled up and posed, and although they are stinking adorable, they were never what I was looking to do.

Then I met Fresh 48 photography. I brought my camera to the hospital the first time I met my nephew, and I've been hooked since.

The light, the emotions, the peace, ALL of it is perfect.

Hello Gabrielle Vanice, and welcome to the world.

Gabrielle was born in Wilmington, and was born a petite little thing. Her long black hair was stunning and she was one of the cutest newborns I've ever seen (she can thank her momma Vanessa!).

The reason I love these sessions is because they celebrate not just a new baby, but they also capture a bit of realness of the situation. Labor is real and required. Sleepless nights are real and required. And the time in the hospital is that time in between it all.

Essentially at a Fresh 48 session, I show anytime during the hospital stay that works for you (preferably when there's sunlight). We make sure baby is fed and changed, and then we essentially let them be while I photograph it all. Interactions with the welcomed and somewhat posed, and can lead to some amaazing photos.

And that's it! There's no five hour session just a week after birth. There's no leaving your comfort zone and the comfort of the bed (mom JUST gave birth). There's just me (your photographer) and whoever you want to be there. I'll even bring snacks or coffee if you want ;)

The details are so perfect and tiny.

And let's not forget mom. I loved when momma Vanessa was concerned for a second for looking perfect, but then said "Who cares, I just had a baby. Nobody is expecting me to look perfect." YES. EXACTLY. And even then, she's still incredibly beautiful.
